Cort Haynes, Principal
My wife Kelly and I have two boys, Ky (12th) and Cole (9th). I am a proud alumni of Kansas State University. After beginning my career in Texas as a math teacher and coach at the middle school level we returned home to Kansas in 2010. This is my 14th year in the district where I have served as an assistant principal at MSHS and at MSMS. I am proud to have served as the building Principal at MSMS since 2018. My family enjoys anything K-State and watching sports. We are thrilled to be a part of the Maize community!
Welcome to Maize South Middle School! We pride ourselves on culture which is reflected in every capacity of our school. Our students are top-notch because we have involved families who support our students and our community. Our mission is to help all students achieve and excel at the highest level. We realize that the cornerstone of a strong education is a sound partnership with families. Through high-quality instruction and strong relationships, we intend to edify our students to help them become caring and productive citizens. Anticipating much success for all of our Mavericks this school year!

Support Staff
Our secretaries manage administrative tasks, support communication between staff, students, and parents, and ensure the smooth operation of the school office. Our counselors support students' emotional, social, and academic development by providing guidance, resources, and a safe space to address their needs. Our school nurse cares for the health and wellness of students, including administering medication. Learn about health services in the district. The Mental Health Intervention Team provides support to students by eliminating barriers for students and families in need of clinical therapy. MHIT also provides access to local community health centers.
